International students enrolled in a tertiary programme of study are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year. Students can work full time (40 hrs) in New Zealand only during the summer holidays. The average salary for part time jobs is between NZ$ 10-NZ$ 15 per hour. International students who have graduates from a course in New Zealand that would gain the Skilled Migrant Category may apply for a six month open work permit.
Average cost: Around NZ$200-NZ$350 per month. Home stay /Flat Systems/ Independent Accommodation Home stay means you live with a family in a residential house – usually with a room of your own. Your Home stay family provides your meals and helps you with day-to-day life in New Zealand. Home stay accommodation is an excellent way to meet New Zealanders, and interact with people in English.
